Season 3, Episode 3

It’s Early Witch!

In this episode we talk about the Pisces full moon, the upcoming Mars retrograde, harvesting apples under the full moon, honing psychic abilities, divination, and making sure you have protective boundaries. We talk R3 and Tarot. Witch’s Brew focuses on fruit-fly traps (since it is said season). As always we leave you with a spell.

DIY Fruit Fly Traps

Supplies:

Glass Jar (a small jelly jar works well; you can repurpose a margarine tub)

Plastic Cling Wrap (or, preferably a lid with holes punched into them)

Apples Cider Vinegar (ACV)

Dish Soap

Instructions: Put in 1/4 cup to 1/3 cup of ACV and 13 drops of dish soap into jar. Make a lid with plastic wrap and poke about three to five holes that a fruit fly can easily fly into in the plastic wrap (or put lid with holes drilled into it on). Place “trap” where you’re seeing fruit flies. Renew ACV and soap solution every couple of weeks until all fruit flies have gone (usually by Halloween!). Comment below if you’ve used this and how it worked for you!

Season 3, Episode 1

Winging It and Making Apple Cider Vinegar

MareLin and Runa finally get their two separate worlds — one solitary, one PNW High Priestess — to merge once again. We catch up on All the Things, pull some cards, make some Apple Cider Vinegar (recipe below).

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV):

Supplies needed:

Glass Quart Jar (cleaned and sterilized — does not need to be mason jar, can be an old pickle jar, whatever you have)

fermentation spring and lid — or an old clean tea towel or coffee filter and rubber band.

Enough apple scraps to fill 2/3 of the jar (Runa makes ACV each time she peels an apple or makes pie, etc.)

1 tsp sugar

Water (unchlorinated) ~about 1 1/3 cup.

Instructions: Fill jar with apple scraps 2/3 full. This can include skin, core, seeds, all of it. Add sugar to water and stir until mostly dissolved. Pour sugar water to 1/2″ head space of jar. Put in fermentation spring and lid or cover with clean tea towel and rubber band. Set in a warm dark place for two weeks.

You may stir it every couple of days and skim any scum that floats to the top.

Once two weeks have passed, strain the scraps from the liquid. You may feed said scraps to chickens or pigs, they love it! And the probiotic is good for them.

Set the strained liquid aside for another two to four weeks. I check for that nice vinegar tang after two weeks. Once you are happy with the taste of it, you can put a lid on it and store it in the fridge as long as you like. It will not go bad.

If by chance your vinegar develops a gelatinous blob, congrats! you’ve created a “vinegar mother” and this mother can be used to make future vinegar batches. You can store in your vinegar and just remove it when you want to make a new batch of ACV.

Use your DIY ACV for cooking, cleaning and everything in between, except canning. Do not use your DIY ACV for canning, unless you are a chemist and can test your ACV for its acetic acid level of 5 percent.

Comment below if you’ve used this recipe and how it turned out!

New Year, New Decade, New Country Dwellers

Merry Meet!

Wow, it’s been a long time since we’ve all been gathered around the hearth of our little cottage on the internet here. But we’ve done some new year clearing of the cobwebs, and put a fire in the hearth and we’re getting back to work.

When we took our little break in November of 2018, we thought we’d be back shortly; but the lives of MareLin and definitely Runa decided otherwise.

For many of us 2019 was one of Transition. It was all over the heavens from month to month — this rebirth and that retrograde and this change and that move. But we’re still here, stronger than ever, and ever-evolving, as the universe demands it.

Here we are at the dawn of a new year and a new decade and a new path forward for our beloved Country Dwellers community.

A weekly podcast is looking very different for us here in 2020 then it did back in 2017; but, we’re working back towards that. In the meantime we are going to be peppering the web site here, Anchor, Instagram, and Facebook with new casual #everydaymagick posts in the form of unedited videos. You’ll be getting your two favorite witches unfiltered and raw, so please forgive the lack of polish, or makeup as the case may be. For sure there will be solo videos from Runa (dubbed Solitary Shennanigans with Runa by MareLin) and solo videos from MareLin (dubbed Magick Moments with MareLin by Runa)…and then when the stars align and we can be together in one place, we’ll do some fun joint posts. All of these will be covering whatever is on our minds on our spiritual path and helping connect us with our larger community as well as one another.

If there’s a particular subject matter or a feature from the podcast you’d like one or both of us to cover or revisit, please comment here and let us know.

We’re hoping to re-instate our Pagan Connections efforts as well, so if you’re interested in being interviewed or know someone in the Country Dweller community whose story we should share, please let us know.

You’ll see more blog posts here, because Runa will tell you constantly that nothing beats the written word for depth and detail, but there will be meditations and the like coming from MareLin. All of these efforts will be a regular smorgasbord of pagan pickings, if you will. We will still keep our goal of informing, discussing, and enjoyment with everything we provide here — all for your and our highest good.

Thanks again for pinging us on facebook and instagram and letting us know you missed us as we transitioned through the last year and found our way back to this circle of love we call Country Dwellers.

Blessed Be,

MareLin & Runa

Episode 6, Season 2 – Starting A Witch Controversy – October 13, 2018

Thanks for being patient while we got tech issues worked out. Here is our podcast, better late than never. And it’s a bit different than we normally do. However, we thought it was important to open dialogue about this subject. Take a listen and tell us what you think.

This little kit caused quite a controversy. We think there’s a bit to do about nothing.

Hello all you wonderful Country Dwellers Pagan Podcast listeners. This week MareLin & Runa talk about their reaction to the Pinrose/Sephora Starter Witch Kit controversy. We think you’ll be surprised by what our reaction was to it.
